The Burrs of William James
The chap gracing the cover of the first issue of Soiled and Seeded is William James Senior. James emigrated from England to Toronto in 1906 and quickly became an accomplished photojournalist, supplying photos to several papers, including the Toronto Daily Star. During the early decades of the 20th century James took over 10,000 photographs, documenting many of Toronto's neighborhoods and profiling public events, dignitaries, royalty and the everyday lives of city dwellers.
The photo of James covered in burrs was taken circa 1912 following a hike with his camera. Also included below is a series of self-portraits.
