Mikael Lavogiez, Production, Design & Photography

Mikael is a web designer, photographer and videographer. In 2009 he founded Innovative Spin, a multimedia development company based in Toronto. In his native France, Mikael established Procreaction, a not-for-profit arts organization dedicated to the production of short films and online media projects.

Elizabeth Fausnight, Copy Editor

Elizabeth is a freelance copy editor with The Revisionary. She has earned her BA in Anthropology, her MEd in Montessori Education and a Certificate in Professional Editing through UC Berkeley. Elizabeth has done environmental restoration work with AmeriCorps, studied permaculture at a small urban farmstead, and learned some basic homesteading skills with TrackersPDX. Our contributors represent an interdisciplinary assembly of Canadian and international volunteers. They are writers, poets, artists, educators, photographers and scientists.

Alicia Baddorf (Vancouver, BC, Canada) - Alicia Baddorf is the Garden Project Coordinator at The World in a Garden, an educational urban farm project based in Vancouver, Canada. To read more about her experiences in West Africa, visit:www.theworldinagardenafrica.com.

Melissa Benner (Toronto, ON, Canada) - Melissa is a writer, community organizer and educator. She currently lives in Toronto, Ontario.

Jared Bier (NJ, USA) - Jared lives with his wife in New Jersey. He enjoys reading, writing, traveling and, of course, gardening.

Andrew Boyd (New Town, CT, USA) - Andrew is a landscape designer at Sticks and Stones, a moss farm, stone yard, and sculpture park in New Town, Connecticut. He studied Japanese art at Columbia University and Japanese gardening at Kyoto University of Art and Design. He began a traditional apprenticeship with Teiyu Garden Design in Kyoto, and plans to continue in the Spring of 2011. His work will be featured in Landscape Architect Marc Keane's Tiger Glen Garden at Cornell University's Johnson Museum of Art in April 2011.

Tanya Busse (Moncton, NB, Canada) - Tanya was born in New Brunswick, Canada and received her B.F.A. in Photography from NSCAD University. As an artist and cultural producer, she is interested in the relationship between culture and nature and works predominantly with themes related to aspects of identity, utopia, transformation and social change. She currently spends her time between Oslo, Norway, and Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Lynn Cazabon (Baltimore, MD, USA) - Lynn is an artist who works in photography, web and mobile device platforms, video, and installation. Her work explores ideas about human progress by looking at what is left behind in its wake. Cazabon received a degree in photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art (M.F.A.) and undergraduate degrees from the University of Michigan (B.A., B.F.A.), and is currently Associate Professor of Art at University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Corinne Coe (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) - Corinne Coe is Program Manager for SOIL. She lives and works in Port-au-Prince, Haiti but is always thinking of her nephews Cachao and Cello in the U.S. You may contact her at ccoe@oursoil.org and visit SOIL at www.oursoil.org.

Grégory Delattre (Strasbourg, France) - Grégory is an engineer specializing in urban transport planning. After graduating in Geography, he worked in Montbéliard (France), Geneva (Suisse) and then in Strasbourg (France), his hometown. Passionate for years about the relationship between people and their environment, his work led him to imagine tomorrow's city in harmony with the principles of sustainable development. To do so, he dedicates attention to the human aspect of public spaces, true 'life scenes', and their relation to the different modes of transport (walking, bicycling, public transit, car...)

Nicole Dextras (Vancouver, BC, Canada) - Nicole Dextras is an environmental artist whose artworks follow the seasons, working with ice in the winter and plant materials in the summer. She records the passage of time inherent in her ephemeral installations through photographs that she later exhibits. The socially engaged aspects of her art practice have been influenced by her work in theatre, dance and community based productions. Dextras is a graduate of the Emily Carr University, where she has been a sessional teacher for the past 8 years. Ashley Glenn (St Louis, MO, USA) - Ashley Glenn is a research specialist at the William L. Brown Center at the Missouri Botanical Garden and manages the Sacred Seeds program. She brings her experience on her family's farm, in the vitamin industry and a degree in botany to her work with Sacred Seeds, coordinating conservation and cultural preservation efforts on a local level worldwide.

Natalie Goodale (MA, USA) - Natalie lives in Massachusetts and spent many glorious autumns jumping into her father's heaping leaf piles and many fragrant springs sniffing her mother's iris. She is a freelance writer and loves it when nature and writing can collide.

Lauren Graham (California, USA) - Lauren is a California-born anthropologist and museum professional. She has studied ethnobotany since age 13, and is still fascinated by the beautiful science of plant life.

Daniel Green (Toronto, ON, Canada) - Daniel Green graduated from Carleton University in 2007 with a degree in Globalization, Society and Environment. Since then he has traveled and worked for various non-governmental organizations and Médedins Sans Frontières, Amnesty International and the David Suzuki Foundation. He is currently completing a postgraduate diploma in journalism at Humber College.

Mary Heskel (New York City, NY, USA) - A native of sub-tropical Florida, Mary Heskel currently lives in New York City, where she is working on her dissertation on leaf-level carbon cycling in arctic plants at Columbia University.

Sarah B. Hood (Toronto, ON, Canada) - Sarah B. Hood's latest book is "We Sure Can! How jams and pickles are reviving the lure and lore of local food", and she blogs at Toronto Tasting Notes (totastings.blogspot.ca).

Bethany Horne (Sherwood Park, AB, Canada) - Bethany is a freelance writer and gardener based out of Sherwood Park, Alberta. Bethany and her horticulturalist husband devote a significant amount of time in the summer to their backyard garden and pond, despite the challenges of a limited growing season - which seems to get shorter each year!

Saima Iqbal (Srinagar, India) - Saima Iqbal is a conservation architect working with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) on the conservation of the Mughal gardens in Kashmir.

Todd Irvine (Toronto, ON, Canada) - Todd is an urban forestry consultant with the firm Bruce-Irvine & Associates, where he specializes in the preservation of mature trees. For years he led the popular Toronto Tree Tours with LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests). Todd was until recently the Green Living columnist for Eye Weekly and is a founding editor of Spacing magazine, which covers urban issues in Toronto

Valérie Kaelin (Toronto, ON, Canada) - Valérie C. Kaelin, MFA, DGC, ADC, is an interdisciplinary artist, scenographer, and poet, living and practicing in Toronto. She teaches at Ryerson University in The School of Image Arts and coordinates The Certificate in Design for Arts and Entertainment at The Chang School. She lectures on spatiality and spatial representation in The Department of Multidisciplinary Studies / Études Pluridisciplinaires at Collège Glendon College.

Fiona Mizani (Berlin, Germany) - After 10 years as a foreigner in the city centre - years of bright lights and white nights and all that comes with that - Fiona found a cottage to rent and decided to be a foreigner in Schmoeckwitz instead. Now she has a vegetable patch, a garden bigger than her flat, a cherry tree, a compost heap, a ground elder problem, a walnut tree and the biggest magnolia she's ever seen. Oh, and also she has a husband. And together they have lots of bemused neighbours who've been in Schmoeckwitz for billions of generations, give or take.

Bonnie Monte (Marin County, CA, USA) - Bonnie is a freelance writer and organic gardener in Marin County, California.

Laura Mousseau (Guelph, ON, Canada) - Laura spent her youth hunting for bog monsters with her family on annual camping trips. She is steadfast in her determination to abolish people's unjust aversion to snakes, and writes and talks about them frequently. She is fond of the letter J, which is the tenth letter of the alphabet (the total number of years Laura has lived in Guelph) and is the first letter in Jack-in-the-Pulpit, Laura's favourite native plant.

Ardine Nelson (Columbus, OH, USA) - Ardine Nelson is now Professor Emerita in the Department of Art, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. She has exhibited nationally and internationally. Nelson’s practice includes the traditional and non-traditional cameras and materials in photography and, since 1990, has incorporated the digital medium. As an early experimenter with Polaroid materials she discovered one and has worked with other transfer processes. Nelson is recognized for her continued bodies of work with alternative cameras; pinhole and Diana plastic cameras. Though well versed in the possibilities of digital manipulation, her personal work only employs the computer to make basic adjustment to an image and as a printing device. www.ardinenelson.com

Jeanne L. D. Osnas (Gainesville, FL, USA) - Plant biologist Jeanne L. D. Osnas writes about the biology of our food plants at Botanist in the Kitchen blog.

Barbara Ozimec (Toronto, ON, Canada) - Barbara is Executive Director of Soiled and Seeded Natural Heritage Explorations.

Emma Piper-Burket (Marcola, OR, USA) - Emma Piper-Burket is a filmmaker, artist and social entrepreneur. For the past 2 years she has been working on a cross-media project about sustainable agriculture in Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan, for more information please visit: http://iraqiseedproject.com. In addition to her own artistic endeavors, Emma's other long-term interest is fostering creative environments for others to collaborate and create. Play Farm is a yearly summertime media-making/food producing retreat for artists, filmmakers, designers, and writers that Emma founded in 2009 at her family home in rural Oregon.

Katherine A. Preston (Stanford, CA, USA) - Plant biologist Katherine A. Preston writes about the biology of our food plants at Botanist in the Kitchen blog

Meredith Rivlin (Burlington, VT, USA) - Meredith is aspiring. An aspiring photographer, gardener, writer, grower of all. She lives in Burlington, Vermont with an imaginary dog and has experienced farm work as well as garden work and likes to differentiate between the two. Interests include touching things, smelling things, tasting things, hearing things, and seeing things.

Lynn Shore (Amsterdam, Netherlands) - Lynn Shore is a science teacher, MPH graduate, and permaculturist who is passionate about increasing urban food security through urban foraging and community food projects. She founded the 365 Frankendael project, a simple study of useful herbs found year-round in cities like Amsterdam and runs www.urbanherbology.org with the associated Meetup.com and Facebook groups.

Jill Sinclair (New Delhi, India) - Jill Sinclair is a British landscape historian based in New Delhi.

Amy Tran (Vancouver, BC, USA) - Amy is an aspiring change-maker and food security advocate who volunteers her time with several Vancouver non-profit organizations. When she's not talking seeds and playing with soil, she enjoys pondering collaborative projects around social justice, media, art, and geography. She calls East Vancouver her home.

Sara Udow (Toronto, ON, Canada) - Sara is a recent graduate of the joint Master's program in Communication and Culture at York and Ryerson Universities. She is a food enthusiast, educator, cook and active volunteer at The Stop Community Food Centre. She is also currently the Project Coordinator for an upcoming art exhibition in 2013 called A Short History of Land (SHL): An Exhibition on Possible Futures. Held in Markham, ON, SHL will consider the expansion of urban development into the agricultural Greenbelt, envisioning possible sustainable futures for Markham as well as on a global scale.

Marie Viljoen (New York City, NY, USA) - Marie is a writer and photographer who lives in Brooklyn with her French husband and Dominican cat. She gardens on her roof and tiny terrace and blogs at 66 Square Feet. Her new book is 66 Square Feet- A Delicious Life- a love letter to living seasonally in the most famous city on the planet.

Gillian Ware (Los Angeles, CA, USA) - Gillian Ware is a UK Artist and Tree Activist who divides her time between Los Angeles and London. Websites: www.gillianware.com / http://treeaware.blogspot.com

Melissa Williams (Toronto, ON, Canada) - Melissa is the Assistant for the Residential Planting Programs at LEAF. In her spare time, she pursues her interests in vegetable gardening, food, music, books and long-distance running.

Margaret Witzsche (Vancouver, BC, Canada) - Maggie is a painter, poet who plays Taiji and guitar and sometimes makes films. She has a beloved garden which is fortunately forgiving and is often her muse. She lives in Vancouver B.C. where they are experiencing another warm winter.

Matthew Wocks (Toronto, ON, Canada) - Matthew is currently studying journalism at Centennial College in Toronto. He has a background as a freelance cameraman and cinematographer, but his real passion is photography and loose leaf tea. In April of 2011 Matthew joined a team of tea experts and travelled the China countryside for 19 days.
